Excellent - thank you for this. One day I would love to write something for telly. But for it to happen, I need to want it more!

Writing for TV can be stressful. In terms of how many involved it's a case of how liong is a piece of string. When I wrote for Easteneders there were (I think) about 50 writers "on the books" but not all were very active at that time. Some people have been writing for Easteneders for many years. Some write for a few years go away do something else then come back.

The thing is a new executive producer might come in and will want to make their mark. This can mean the "voice" of the show may change and that often leads to wholesale change of writers. This is why it's good to keep your other work developing because you may be moving on, not because you aren't any good, but because the show wants to change

Hi Rosalie, well done on getting your play finished. Is that the Charity sequel? Drop by later in the week as Jeremy Herrin from Live Theatre will speak to us about what a director is looking for in new writing for theatre. Jay, I'll pass on your question to Richard.

I was wondering about the stress of the job. And how many people are involved as writers and directors. And how long a writer would usually write for the same series.

A very interesting interview - thanks, Richard, for all the advice. I would love to write for radio or TV but have never had a clue how to begin. Now I will make sure I have a portfolio of plays ready - one down, four to go!
